Her father, considering that his daughter was developing at a rapid rate, thought it best that he get the first crack at her before any other man ever would. Although her being able to avoid her father's unwarranted approach were successful, it was largely due to her being a child actress/entertainer and was in modest demand for her age at the time; a consolation to her mother--who is notorious for turning a blind eye to her husband's indiscretions.
When she was finally considered legal, she often could be heard saying that she was glad to be able to leave home..unfortunately, it was often to the awaiting arms of an abusive lover and occasional marriage that often exposed her to homosexuality (hers and her spouse's) and substance abuse.
